Women's Tennis Defeats Fairfield 4-2

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The UConn women's tennis team defeated Fairfield 4-2 on Thursday afternoon in non-conference action in Fairfield, Conn.
In a contest with no doubles' matches, UConn relied on its strong singles' play to lead the Huskies to victory.
Alexa Gregory defeated Fairfield's Kristen Liu in No. 3 singles in a pair of 6-1 sets, while Lauren Wilmarth downed Nikki Jackson 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-1. Gregory improved to 3-3 this spring in No. 3 singles' matches as Wilamrth picked up her first win in the No. 4 spot.
In No. 5 singles, Abby McKeon won her match with a 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-4 win over Carolina Emhardt.
Freshman Lucy Nutting won her respective match by defeating Alyssa Ruiz 6-1, 6-0.
Jennifer Learmonth dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Fairfield's Monica Yajima, while Sharissa Ryan slipped past Emily Herb 6-1, 6-4 in No. 2 singles' action.
UConn will return to action on Tuesday, March 22 as the Huskies will play host to Cincinnati in a BIG EAST Conference match-up.
