STORRS, Conn. - After opening the BIG EAST portion of its schedule last weekend, the University of Connecticut lacrosse team will take a break from conference play and travel to New York for a pair of games this weekend. The Huskies will take on Canisius at 5:00 p.m. on Friday (March 25) and will then face St. Bonaventure at 12:00 noon on Sunday (March 27). Both contests will mark the third overall meeting between the teams, with UConn owning a 2-0 record against Canisius and the Huskies and the Bonnies splitting their overall series.
Junior Kiersten Tupper (Camillus, N.Y.) became just the second current Husky to post 100 career points last weekend, as she posted a goal and an assist against Rutgers. Tupper now ranks 10th all-time in the UConn record books with 101 career points. Joining Tupper on that list is classmate M.E. Lapham (Cazenovia, N.Y.), who is just 10 shy of recording her 100th career goal. Lapham leads the Huskies with 24 goals this season and ranks seventh all-time in the UConn record books with 90 goals on her career.
Senior Jessica Mucci (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) has been a staple for the UConn defense so far this season, leading the team in ground balls (14) and draw controls (15) and ranking second in caused turnovers (11). She has posted at least one ground ball in each contest this season, with a season-high of four coming against Holy Cross and Rutgers.
As a team, the Huskies rank second in the BIG EAST for the fourth straight week averaging 13.29 goals per game. UConn also ranks in the top-two for the fourth straight week in points (18.86 per game) and draw controls (15.86), while also finishing in the top-three in shots (28.86), caused turnovers (10.14) and assists (5.57).
Canisius (4-3) enters Friday's contest having won three straight games, including an 11-10 victory over Robert Morris earlier this week. Canisius and UConn have one opponent in common, as both teams have faced Binghamton this season, with the Golden Griffins also earning a victory over the Bearcats. St. Bonaventure (2-2) enters the weekend after winning two out of its first four contests, and is led by Christine Hanley who has a team-high 17 points on 13 goals and four assists.
