Huskies Drop Cold One To Quinnipiac, 7-3

STORRS, Conn. - With the weather cold and wet, the Huskies fell to Quinnipiac at the Connecticut Softball Stadium, 7-3. Freshman catcher Andrea Huelsenbeck belted her third home run of the season. UConn dropped to 11-14 while Quinnipiac improved to 16-13.
Junior Ali Adelman started for Connecticut, allowing five runs, three of them earned, in five innings. She dropped to 4-5 on the season. Freshman Katelyn Callahan came on in relief for the final two innings. She allowed two runs, zero earned, with three strikeouts and two walks.
Quinnipiac's Heather Schwartzburg came on in relief in the second inning for Mina Duffy to earn the victory. Schwartzburg pitched six innings, allowing one run with six K's.
UConn took a 2-0 lead with a two-RBI double from junior Amy Vaughan to right field in the bottom of the second inning. Vaughan's fourth double of the year plated Huelsenbeck and sophomore Kim Silva.
The Bobcats answered with three runs in the top of the third before Huelsenbeck's blast to left field in the bottom of the inning evened the score at 3-3.
UConn would go scoreless the rest of the game while Quinnipiac added a pair of runs in the fifth and seventh inning.
Connecticut faces Rutgers for three games this weekend in BIG EAST action beginning with a double-header on Saturday, April 2 starting at noon. The two teams will finish the weekend series at noon on Sunday. All games will be played at the UConn Softball Stadium in Storrs.
