Women's Tennis Downs Providence 5-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The UConn women's tennis team downed Providence 5-2 in BIG EAST Conference tennis action on Wednesday afternoon.
Alexa Gregory led the Huskies with a shutout win in No. 3 singles as she downed Ayushi Sinha 6-0, 6-2. She also joined teammate Abby McKeon in No. 2 doubles and cruised to an 8-1 victory over Providence's Sinha and Melissa Ferry.
McKeon won No. 5 singles for UConn as she edged the Friars' Ferry 6-4, 6-3. UConn's Lauren Wilmarth also won her singles match in the No. 4 spot as she came away with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Courtney Burek.
Lucy Nutting tallied the fourth singles win for the Huskies with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Bianca Sciotti. In No. 2 doubles, senior Katie Moritz and freshman Marie Gargiulo combined to defeat Burek and Sciotti 8-2.
Emily Herb lost her singles' match 6-4, 6-1, while Jennifer Learmonth was also edged in No. 1 singles by a score of 6-4, 6-2. The two Huskies combined to win the No. 1 doubles for UConn, downing Marisela Aviles-Duron and Maria Clara Bernandez, 7-6.
The Huskies improve to 5-6 this spring after the BIG EAST Conference victory. They will return to action on Wednesday, April 6 at St. John's in Queens, N.Y.
