Philadelphia, Pa. - University of Connecticut field hockey standout Cara Silverman will join the USA Open Women's Field Hockey Team at the 13th European Maccabi Games in Vienna, Austria in July. Silverman is an alumnus of the USA Open Women's Field Hockey Team that took the silver medal at the 18th World Maccabiah Games in July, 2009.
A junior, Silverman has scored 31 goals and dished-out seven assists for the Huskies. She was honored as an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection.
At the 18th World Maccabiah Games in 2009 she contributed five goals and six assists in the Tournament competing against the best Jewish Field Hockey athletes in the world. In high school, Silverman played for third ranked West Essex High School in New Jersey where she played Midfield and contributed 30 goals and 33 assists during her tenure there. She also played four years of Club Field Hockey with The Edge as a Midfielder.
Silverman's greatest athletic achievement to date has been making the 2010 NCAA Quarterfinal with Connecticut. This was incredibly exciting for her. "I hope to help my Team bring home the Gold this summer," Silverman said. "Representing the USA in Israel was an incredible experience and I do expect my European Maccabi experience to be very special too as I will have the opportunity again to play my sport against other talented Jewish athletes from around the world."
