Guches Homers In 8-5 Victory At Hartford

HARTFORD, Conn. - UConn softball defeated in-state rival Hartford today in Hartford, Conn., 8-5. Sophomores Marissa Guches and Brittany Duclos each went 3-for-4 on the day with Guches belting her third home run of the season in the top of the fourth inning. UConn improved to 15-16 on the season. Hartford dropped to 3-21.
Sophomore Kiki Saveriano earned the victory with 6.2 innings pitched allowing two runs with six strikeouts. She improved to 8-11 on the season.
Guches opened the game up with a three-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to make it 4-0 in favor of Connecticut. UConn would add another run in the inning to make it 5-0 when Jennifer Ward doubled home Julieanne Towers.
Connectict made it 8-0 in the top of the fifth with three insurance tallies. Kim Silva doubled to center, scoring Andrea Huelsenbeck for the game-winning run.
The Hawks made it interesting with five runs in the final three innings but the Huskies closed the door with freshman Katelyn Callahan coming in to record the final out of the game.
UConn will be in action next with a double-header at Louisville on Wednesday, April 13 beginning at noon.
