PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The University of Connecticut rowing team had three boats advance to semifinals races on Friday on the first day of the Dad Vail Regatta. The event concludes on Saturday and is the last event of the year for the Huskies.
The UConn varsity eight has an outstanding first race as it finished second in its heat in a time of 7:31.86. The race was won by Drexel as the Huskies topped Dayton, Drake, Michigan State and VCU. UConn's second place finish gave the Huskies a bye in the next round and sent the boat directly to the semifinals. Connecticut entered the event seeded 16 of 35 boats.
The junior varsity eight finished fourth in its heat in a time of 7:20.26 in a race won by St. Jospeh's. That fourth place finish moves the Huskies to Saturday's semifinals.
The UConn novice eight finished third in its race in a time of 7:31.86 and also advanced to Saturday's semifinals. UConn topped George Mason, Cincinnati and Washington University in that race.
The UConn varsity four finished fourth in its first race in 8:09.99 and did not advance.
