Women's Tennis Opens Fall Schedule At Fairfield Doubles Festival

Fairfield Doubles Festival Results

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's tennis team opened the fall season on Saturday at the Fairfield Doubles Festival and had three doubles teams advance to the semifinals of pool play. The Festival included three pools of round-robin play, leading to three single-elimination tournaments. UConn advanced to the semifinals in each of the three pools.

Sophomore Marie Gargiulo and junior Lauren Wilmarth advanced to the semifinals of Pool 3 but fell to a tandem from Bryant, 8-4. In pool play, Gargiulo and Wilmarth defeated Providence, 8-2, and Sacred Heart, 8-0, but fell to Quinnipiac, 8-4.

UConn's duo in Pool 1 consisted of sophomore Jennifer Learmonth and freshman Mexene Weinberg. They fell to Providence (8-5), Bryant (8-4), Quinnipiac (8-1) and Fairfield (8-7 (3)).

The Huskies also sent a tandem of senior Alexa Gregory and Freshman Natalie Robson. They advanced to the semifinals but fell to Quinnipiac, 8-1. In pool play, Gregory and Robson fell to Rhode Island, 8-4, before defeating Hartford, 8-2, and Bryant, 8-6.

The Huskies compete next weekend at the Quinnipiac Invitational beginning on Friday, September 16.
