Women's Tennis Drops Spring Opener To Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The UConn women's tennis team opened the spring schedule this weekend in West Point, N.Y., falling to the Black Knights of Army, 7-0.
Doubles action saw the Huskies battle throughout but the No. 1 duo of Jennifer Learmonth and Maxene Weinberg fell 8-3 and No. 2 tandem of Alexa Gregory and Lucy Nutting dropped an 8-4 match. UConn's No. 3 pairing Abby McKeon and Marie Gargiulofell 8-6.
In singles action. Gregory dropped her match at No. 1, 6-3, 6-1. Weinberg suffered a two-set defeat, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2, as did Lucy Nutting at No. 3, 6-4, 6-2. Abby McKeontook the second set of her match at No. 4 but eventually took the loss at 6-0, 3-6, 6-2.
The Huskies will face Marquette and West Virginia next weekend at Marquette to open BIG EAST play.
