Huskies Drop Two On Second Day In Fresno

FRESNO, Calif.-The University of Connecticut softball team added their eighth straight loss to the season as they fell to 1-8 after concluding the second day of the Bayer CropScience Classic where they fell 9-3 to No. 18 Oregon (16-3) before falling 8-3 to the hosting Fresno State (15-8).
The Huskies were outhit 13-7 in the first game by the Ducks before tallying six hits against the Bulldogs who notched 10 hits on the evening.
In the first game of the day, junior hurler Kiki Saveriano (Lexington, Mass.) threw six innings and allowed eight earned runs to fall to 1-5 on the season. She was replaced in the final inning by sophomore Katelyn Callahan (Queensbury, N.Y.) who threw one inning and gave up no hits or runs.
The Ducks had a quick jumpstart to the game as they notched three runs in the top of the first inning on four hits.
Oregon entered the bottom of the third with a 5-0 lead when the Huskies tallied their three runs of the game on three hits. The three runs came on two homeruns. Junior Kim Silva (Cheshire, Conn.) homered to left field before freshman Emily O'Donnell (Niskayuna, N.Y.) had her first career homerun to left field.
Oregon added four more runs to conclude the game at 9-3 before the Huskies fell to Fresno State.
Freshman right-hander Lauren Duggan (Norwood, Mass.) was served her third loss of the season as she allowed five earned runs in 3.1 innings against the Bulldogs. Replacing the freshman was senior Ali Adelman who came in for 2.2 innings and had one strikeout and no earned runs.
The Huskies scored all three runs of their second game against Fresno State in the top of the first inning when senior Amy Vaughan hit a three-run homer to left field. It was Vaughan's third homer of the season as she leads the team with a .385 batting average.
The Huskies will conclude the Bayer CropScience Classic on Sunday at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday when they face Butler.
