Baseball Shutout in Season Debut at Dodd Stadium

NORWICH, Conn. - The University of Connecticut baseball team fell to Rutgers, 15-0, at Dodd Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies dropped to 23-17 overall and 11-4 in the BIG EAST, while the Scarlet Knights improved to 22-17 and 8-7.
Sophomore lefty Anthony Marzi (Berlin, Conn.) took the loss in a four-inning start for UConn. Marzi (2-5) allowed eight runs, only four earned, on seven hits. RU senior righty Ryan Fasano (4-3) picked up the win, tossing six innings of shutout ball after giving up just four hits. Junior lefty Dan O'Neill came on in relief and recorded a three-inning save, his second of the season.
The Scarlet Knights outhit the Huskies 18-8 for the game. Sophomore center fielder Brian O'Grady batted 3-6 with two runs, two RBI and a triple out of the lead-off spot. Redshirt-junior DH Charlie Law drove in four runs, including a three-run homer in the fifth.
For Connecticut, junior second baseman LJ Mazzilli (Greenwich, Conn.) and freshman left fielder Eric Yavarone (North Haven, Conn.) each went 2-4 at the dish.
The Huskies return to action with a midweek, non-conference contest against Bryant at J.O. Christian Field on Tuesday, April 24 at 3:00 pm.
