Women's Cross Country Prepares for ISU Pre-Nationals

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – After a short week, the University of Connecticut women’s cross country team is geared up to participate in the 2014 Indiana State University Pre-National Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
The event will feature 158 teams and over 1,600 athletes competing in six races this Saturday. Action begins with the Women’s Blue 6K race at 11:00 a.m. (ET) followed by the Men’s 8K Blue Race at (11:35 a.m.), Women’s 6K White Race (12:15 p.m.), Men’s 8K White Race (12:50 p.m.), Women’s 6K Open Race (1:30 p.m.), and Men’s 8K Open Race (2:05 p.m.).
The challenging field will feature 15 regionally ranked teams, including Yale which checks in at No. 7 in the Northeast Region. The Huskies were ranked No. 12 in the most recent USRTCCCA regional poll.
“This meet will give the team a big meet experience before the championship season begins,” said coach Amy Begley. “We will also get a glimpse of some of the conference teams we will face in two weeks.”
The Huskies are coming off an 18th-place finish at the New England Championships, an event in which many of UConn’s top runners did not participate due to the impending ISU Pre-Nationals.
