Post-Game Quotes
UConn Head Coach Geno Auriemma
On how Kia Nurse played today
"Kia was really disappointed after the Stanford game, I mean really disappointed. She felt like she contributed to the loss in some ways and obviously fouling out bothered her a lot. She did what great competitors do. She came back, put it behind her, and used it as a motivator to play even better than what you would expect. I'm not surprised she did that. She is one tough kid."
On Kia Nurse's preparedness compared to All-Americans
"They all come with different levels of preparedness. I think Kia has a lot of other qualities, and that's why I said what I said at media day. I'm not predicting she's going to be anything down the road. If you ask me which of the freshman looks like they have an upside based on what I have seen up to this point, she has a lot going for her. Is she the same as some of the great guards that we have had here? None of them were that great as freshman."
On the play of Gabby Williams today
"If you talk to Gaby after the Stanford game, you ask, 'Are you disappointed in your play?' 'Yeah, but I don't deserve to play.' People play well when they are in their comfort zones, people play well when they feel good about themselves, and these last 4-5 days, she has gotten into that comfort zone. On the defensive end, she can make a lot of defense plays that other kids can't. So we are trying to take advantage of what she is really good at until she picks up the other stuff."
Junior forward Breanna Stewart
On her feelings on the state of UConn so far this year
"I think that we're three games into the season. Yes we lost to Stamford, but that just shows that we need to get better at things, so we're getting better at things right now and taking it game by game; not really thinking about where we're going to end up in March but we have a goal of where we want to end up."
On the play of Morgan Tuck
"It's great to see [Morgan] back and the fact that she's being aggressive because, you know, that's how she plays. That's how Morgan plays, and she hasn't really had an opportunity to be, in her career, consistently like that and I'm excited to have that on our team."
Freshman guard Gabby Williams
On her play for the Huskies today
"Overall I think that it's just effort and not picking and choosing when to go hard. Even after this roll just keep going and keep going through every play and keep working through everything, keep talking and being loud and just being a better teammate."
On how felt after the Stanford game and how she was able to bounce back
"It's wasn't that I was disappointed that I didn't play, I was more disappointed that I didn't give the coaches a reason to play me… I can't just expect thing to be given to me, and I was disappointed that I didn't go after it and show them that I can help… I think when I came back [from Stamford] the coaches noticed a difference in me, and I think that's why I played a little bit more today.
Creighton Head Coach Jim Flanery
On what his team can take out of today's game
"It's really about how hard it is to be as good as UConn is. I think people look at their players and think that they just have really great players. The fact is they do have really great players, but they also execute incredibly well. They play incredibly hard and they don't give you any margin for error. I'll be interested to watch how many loose balls they get and how disruptive they are defensively. They're going to make so many shots because they're really good, but the times where you let down, they expose every time you let down.
On taking 30 shots from the 3-point line today
"We weren't going to score in the post. We're not big enough and they're too long. We were going to have to make a lot of 3's. The turnovers early against the press hurt us, but our half-court offense was ok. It looked like what I thought. We were going to have to make some 3's. I would have liked to have gotten to the line a little bit more and we didn't finish inside quite enough. I would have expected half of our baskets to be 3's and without looking I think quite a few more than half were 3's.
