Huskies Open Spring Season at Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The UConn women's tennis team opened up the spring portion of their schedule with a trip to West Point over the weekend for a pair of dual matches. The Huskies lost in dual match action to Stony Brook, 4-2, and the host Army Knights, 6-1.
In Friday's match-up with Stony Brook, the two teams played just the singles matches with the Seawolves winning four of the six matches contested. Freshman Emma Alderman (Hingham, Mass.) beat Nadia Smergut at #2, 6-4 and 7-5. Senior Lucy Nutting (Wilmington, Del.) beat Louis Badoche at #4 singles, 6-4 and 6-3.
On Saturday, Nutting earned the Huskies lone point winning her #4 singles match. Nutting posted a 6-0 and 6-2 win over Army's Della Taylor. In doubles action, the Husky team of Alderman and junior Maxene Weinberg (Marietta, Ga.) posted a 6-3 win over Della and Elle Taylor at the #1 spot.
"Lucy Nutting had outstanding matches for our team this weekend," stated head coach Glenn Marshall. "She led the way with great singles wins on both days."
The Huskies are back in actionon February 16th when they travel to St. John's.
