UConn Baseball vs. Hartford Moved

STORRS, Conn. -- Due to unplayable field conditions at J.O. Christian Field, the UConn baseball game against Hartford tomorrow (March 25) afternoon scheduled to be a home game in Storrs will now be an away game in West Hartford. First pitch between the Huskies and Hawks at Fiondella Field is still set for 3 p.m.

The Huskies have opened the season with a 11-10 record and have won seven of their last nine contests. Sophomore 1B Bobby Melley (Barnstable, Mass.) was named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll for the week of March 24. Melley hit .444 (8-for-18) to go along with four walks, knocking two doubles and notching four RBI in UConn's three-win week.

Freshman RHP Andrew Zapata (Staten Island, N.Y.) will make his third start of the season for the Huskies. The hurler has tossed 20.1 innings this season, allowing just 10 hits and three earned runs, while striking out 15 batters. In his first collegiate start, Zapata shined, throwing seven shutout innings, allowing one hit and four walks to go with five strikeouts.

Tuesday's game will be the 49th-ever meeting between the two programs, with the Huskies holding a 36-12 edge. Most recently, UConn downed Hartford, 9-1, on the road last season, fueled by a two-hit, two RBI performance from Melley.

This season, Hartford is off to a 9-8 start, including a 4-1 record at Fiondella Field. The Hawks are led by junior INF/OF Brady Sheetz who boasts a .302 batting average and a team-high 11 RBI. On the basepaths, sophomore Adam Touhey has swiped five bags in six attempts. As a team, the Hartford pitching staff holds a 2.47 ERA and a stellar 2.18 (124/57) K/BB ratio.

As of now, UConn will open its home schedule on Wednesday afternoon against Central Connecticut for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
