Top 20 Finish For UConn's Zaback

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. (Sept. 15, 2014) --- UConn junior Zach Zaback (Farmington, Conn.) led a 75-player field with 11 birdies in three rounds as he recorded a Top 20 finish in the Olympia Fields Country Club/Fighting Illini Invitational, UConn's opening tournament of the 2014-15 season.
Zaback finished in a tie for 19th place after shooting an 11-over 74-73-74-221 on the Olympia Fields course, a former U.S. Open site. Zaback also tied for fifth in Par 3 scoring, playing the Par 3 holes in 1-under.
Also for the Huskies, senior Chris Wiatr (Woodbury, Conn.) finished in a tie for 36th place with a 77-73-76-226, and his eight birdies tied for ninth most birdies in the tourney. UConn junior John Flaherty (Glastonbury, Conn.) was tied for 42nd place after his 77-72-78-228 and he tied for second in Par 3 scoring at 2-under.
Senior Dane Rosa (Mansfield, Conn.) finished in a tied for 62nd place with an 81-78-75-234, while junior Cameron MacKay (Brookfield, Conn.) was 74th with an 86-78-83-247.
Stanford's Maverick McNealy (71-71-71-213) and Illinois' Dylan Meyer (72-70-71-213) tied for medalist honors.
UConn's aggregate 309-297-303-909 finished 14th in the field, which was won by host school Illinois (294-290-277-861).
UConn's season continues on Sept. 21-22 at the Hartford Hawks Invitational at the Bull's Bridge Country Club in South Kent, Conn.
