Huskies Sweep Siena, 4-0

Sept. 19, 2014 SCHNENECTADY, N.Y. - The UConn men's tennis team made it a 2-0 week in dual match play thanks to a 4-0 sweep at Siena College Friday afternoon. The Huskies swept doubles play and won at #1, #4 and #6 singles for the win in a match played in clinch format.
The Huskies dominated at #1 and #2 doubles to open match. Senior Jacob Spreyer (Denver, Colo.) and sophomore Christopher Toner (South Hamilton, Mass.) posted an 8-1 win over Alex Burbine and Eric Sumanaru at #1. The combo of sophomore Parker Goldstein (Marietta, Ga.) and freshman Jonathan Edwards (Isle of Palms, S.C.) clinched the point with an 8-2 win over Darren Reisch and Matthew Funiciello at #2.
Spreyer posted a 6-1 and 6-2 win at #1 singles over Reisch while Edwards won at #4 singles over Sumanaru, 6-0 and 6-2. Edwards has had an impressive start to his collegiate career, posting a 7-2 record in singles play in the early going. UConn clinched the match thanks to a Zac McEntee (Yorbal Linda, Calif.) win at #6, 6-2 and 6-1 over Alessandro Saglia.
UConn's Toner, Goldstein and Andrew Ginzberg (Woodbridge, Conn.) all led their singles matches when the match was clinched at 4-0.
The Huskies are back in action on Tuesday, September 23rd when they will host Marist on the UConn Tennis Courts at 2:00 pm.
