Husky Golfers Finish Third At Hawks Invitational

SOUTH KENT, Conn. --- UConn senior Chris Wiatr (Woodbury, Conn.) recorded the sixth Top 5 finish of his career Tuesday as the led the UConn men's golf team to a third-place finish at the Hartford Hawk Invitational at Bull's Bridge Golf Club.
Wiatr's 1-over par 70-74-74-217 earned him fifth place in the huge 105-player field, seven strokes behind tournament medalist Evan Russell of Hartford, who shot a 6-under 210. Wiatr was also second in the field in Par 4 scoring, playing the Par 4s at even-par.
UConn's aggregate 291-297-294-882 was good enough for third place in the 19-team field, eight strokes behind tournament champion Hartford, the host school, and six strokes in back of second-place UCF.
UConn junior Zach Zaback (Farmington, Conn.) shot 73-73-77-223 to tie for 11th place, the 12th Top 15 finish of his career, while sophomore Eric Dietrich (Cheshire, Conn.) had his best career finish, also ending up in a tie for 11th place with a 74-77-72-223. Dietrich's 72 tied his UConn career-best round in competition and his 10 birdies were among the tourney leaders.
Also for UConn, junior Cameron MacKay (Brookfield, Conn.) had the second-best finish of his career, tying for 24th place with a 74-77-74-225, while junior John Flaherty (Glastonbury, Conn.) tied for 32nd place with a 79-73-75-227.
Playing as an individual, UConn senior Dane Rosa (Mansfield, Conn.), tied for 29th place at 73-75-78-226, and led the entire tournament field with 39 pars. UConn senior Mike Masso (Suffield, Conn.) was tied for 66th at 78-78-80-236, and freshman Sasha Wortleboer (Geneva, Switzerland), in his first collegiate competition, was tied for 85th place with an 83-78-80-241.
UConn will continue its fall schedule this weekend, competing in the Quechee Club Collegiate Challenge in Quechee, Vt.
