PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Fresh off a 91-81 victory over No. 3 Notre Dame, freshman guard Katie Lou Samuelson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) earned her first accolade as a Husky after being named the American Athletic Conference's Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday.
The California native averaged 11.5 points per game and shot 61 percent from the floor during UConn's 2-0 week against top 25 opponents. On Dec. 2, Samuelson scored 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting in a 86-70 road win over No. 23/18 DePaul. In front of a sold-out crowd in Harry A. Gampel Pavilion on Saturday, the rookie posted 13 points, pulled down three rebounds, dished two assists and earned two takeaways to help UConn defeat the Irish. She also made a trio of three-pointers, an early career-best for Samuelson.
Overall, Connecticut (6-0) has won 43 consecutive contests and boasts an impressive +33.3 scoring margin.
The Huskies will visit Colgate on Wednesday night in Hamilton, N.Y. at Cotterell Court. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on SNY and will be streamed live on ESPN3.
