UConn Club Holds 62nd Award Ceremony

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn Club held its 62nd Annual Awards Ceremony on Tuesday night at the Jorgensen Center For The Performing Arts in Storrs. The event was held at Jorgensen for the first-time ever and was repurposed into an awards show format instead of the traditional sit-down diner style.
Pat L. '51 and Mark S. '88 Sinatro were given The Red O'Neill Award, which has been given by The UConn Club for decades to a former Husky student-athlete who has the attributes of character, leadership, athletic ability, and later, a successful career.
Peter and Pam Werth, who were critical in the building of UConn's new-campus basketball training facility, were honored with the A.J. Pappanikou Outstanding Contribution Award.
The national championship UConn women's basketball and field hockey teams were honored as were the Huskies' All-American performers from the past 12 month.
The following were given the UConn Club Senior Scholar-Athlete Award: Terra Briody (Ridgefield, Conn.), Women's Track And Field; Amy Christensen (Ashburn, Va.), Volleyball; Brianna Datti (Durham, N.H.), Volleyball; Faith Dismuke (Passaic, N.J.), Women's Track And Field; Riley Houle (Columbia, Conn.), Women's Soccer; Ashley LaPenta (Bristol, Conn.), Softball; Pat Lenehan (Cheshire, Conn.,), Men's Basketball; Mike Masso (Suffield, Conn.), Golf; Kathleen Snajder (Monroe, Conn.), Rowing; Peter Surovic (Zlin, Czech Republic), Men's Tennis; Maxene Weinberg (Marietta, Ga.), Women's Tennis.
The following were presented the UConn Club Senior Athlete Award: Adria Beso Marco (Lleida, Spain), Men's Soccer; Ryan Boatright (Aurora, Ill.), Men's Basketball; Darnell Cummings (Millbrook, N.Y.), Men's Track and Field; Chrissy Davidson (West Lawn, Pa.), Field Hockey; Cory Duggan (Staten Island, N.Y.); Sawyer Franz (Pine, Colo.), Men's Swimming and Diving; Chloe Hunnable (Halstead, England), Field Hockey; Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis (Anaheim Hills, Calif.), Women's Basketball; Natasha McLaren (Stroudburg, Pa.), Women's Track and Field; Chinyere Pigot (Miami, Fla.), Women's Swimming and Diving; Lauren Sara (Stratford, Conn.), Women's Cross Country/Track and Field; Lachezar Shumkov (Sofia, Bulgaria), Men's Swimming and Diving; Kiah Stokes (Marion, Iowa), Women's Basketball.
The Don Ruck Award, named for the founding father of The UConn Club, was given to Franz with the other two finalists being Emily Anderson (Killingworth, Conn.) of women's lacrosse and Trevor Gerling (Seattle, Wash.) of men's ice hockey. The Ruck Award is given each year to a student-athlete who has displayed extraordinary commitment to community service or a significant leadership role in a student volunteer group. It is voted upon by the UConn student-athletes.
The Donald Kinsman Award was presented to Lenehan and Nyanka Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.) of the women's track and field team. The Donald Kinsman Award is given each year by our Counseling Program for Intercollegiate Athletes to those student-athletes who have demonstrated universal success during their time at UConn.
