Women's Track and Field Competes at Valentine Invitational

BOSTON - In the final meet prior to the indoor conference championship, the UConn women's track and field team competed at the unscored Valentine Invitational on Friday, Feb. 12 in Boston.
"I was pleased with our performance," said head coach J.J. Clark. "We had several personal-bests and put up some good marks in the conference. This was a good way to get us into the postseason."
Sarah Bowens shined in the long jump, winning a gold medal with a 6.09m leap, which checks in at No. 18 in the conference, while fellow senior Odrine Belot set a new indoor personal-best in the event, taking second with a 6.01m result. Deysha Smith-Jenkins posted a sixth-place finish in the 200m dash, crossing the finish line in a season-best 24.02 seconds. The result currently stands in the top-five in The American.
Belot followed up her strong performance in the long jump with a win in the triple jump (12.85m), topping teammate Melodee Riley's sixth-place 12.03m mark.
Freshman Hannah Parker delivered a collegiate-best performance in the 800m run, taking eighth with a 2:06.92 second finish, just ahead of teammates Sydnee Over (2:07.03) and Katie Foley (2:09.33), who also posted personal-best results. Senior Laura Williamson was the top finisher for the Huskies in the mile run, collecting 19th-place with a 4:46.36 finish and edging out Alexis Panisse (4:49.40), who notched a collegiate-best performance.
Toni-Ann Moore added another top-10 performance in the 60H, taking eighth with a time of 8.84. In the 60m dash, Bowens (7.86) and Toni Brown (7.87), checked in in 21st and 22nd, respectively.
In the high jump, senior Saija Bikanova took ninth with a leap of 1.60m, while senior Kelly Myers established a new season-best with a fourth-place 13.79m throw in the shot put.
Gabriella Attanasio matched a career-best with a 3.50m mark in the pole vault, followed by Megan Reese's (3.50m) eighth-place finish. Kelli Thomas took second in the weight throw (16.67m), while Megan Chapman registered a 14th-place finish (15.33m) in the event.
In the distance events, freshman Haley Hasty delivered a season-best 10:18.45 time in the 3,000m run.
Results from the 5,000m run were not immediately available on Friday night.

UConn will take the next weekend off before returning to the track to compete for the 2016 American Athletic Conference indoor crown on Feb. 28-29.
