UConn Falls at No. 49 SMU, 6-1

DALLAS, Texas - The UConn women's tennis team finished off their road trip to Texas on Sunday falling to No. 49 nationally ranked SMU 6-1 in an American Athletic Conference match. The loss evens the Huskies overall record at 4-4 and drops them to 0-2 in the AAC.
The Huskies opened the match on Sunday by taking the doubles point. Junior Shea Flanagan (Overland Park, Kans.) and freshman Jacqueline Lazaro (Largo, Fla.) got it started with a 6-4 win over Macie Elliot and Mary Wright at #3.
SMU followed with a 7-5 win at #1 as Vaszilisza Bulgakova and Hristina Dishkova topped the team of senior Srna Stosljevic (Novi Sad, Serbia) and feshman Jacquelyn Fitz-Randolph (Tampa, Fla.). The point came down to the #2 match where junior Emma Alderman (Hingham, Mass.) and sophomore Yelyzaveta Pletnyeva (Vinnitsa, Ukraine) teamed up to earn a 7-6 (5) win over Dasha Sharapova and Ana Perez-Lopez to clinch it.
In singles, SMU swept all six singles matches to take the match. The Huskies dropped a pair of three-set matches. Fitz-Randolph won the opening set, 6-2, over Sharapova at #4 but fell 6-1 and 6-1. At #5, Flanagan took the opening set 7-5 over Wright but came up short falling 6-1 and 7-6.
The Huskies will head to Florida this coming weekend for matches with conference foe UCF and Florida Institute of Technology.
