Huskies Claim 13-10 Victory On Senior Day

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's lacrosse team secured a spot in the Big East tournament after defeating Vanderbilt, 13-10, Saturday. Five UConn seniors tallied goals on senior day to help the Huskies preserve their perfect 5-0 conference record.
The Huskies got off to an early 3-0 lead with goals from seniors Katherine Finkelston (Leonardtown, Md.), Carly Palmucci (Herndon, Va.) and Alexandra Crofts (Westport, Conn.). Vanderbilt got on the board 7:30 into the game, but UConn answered with three consecutive goals, two from sophomore Grace Nolan (Marcellus, N.Y.) and another for Finkelston.
The score was 8-5 in favor of Connecticut going into halftime after Vanderbilt added two goals in the last two minutes of the first half. Junior Maggie Tripodi (Syracuse, N.Y.) recorded a goal for the Huskies in the first half and Crofts added her second of the contest with two minutes to go before the break.
Senior Alyson Fazio (Methuen, Mass.) scored 30 seconds into the second half to put the Huskies up 9-5. Vanderbilt and UConn took turns exchanging goals for the remainder of the game, but UConn's first-half lead was enough to leave them ahead at the end 13-10.
Nolan scored her third of the game ten minutes into the second half and she led the Huskies with five points (3g, 2a). Senior Victoria Thompson (Ellicott City, Md.) nabbed her second goal of the season on senior day.
Sophomores Kelsey Catalano (Stony Brook, N.Y.) and Deryn Blaney (Stony Brook, N.Y.) also tallied points for UConn. Blaney closed out the scoring for UConn, scoring her first career goal with five minutes to go in the game.
UConn improves to 11-2 overall and its perfect 5-0 Big East record secures a spot for the Huskies in the conference tournament. Vanderbilt drops to 5-9 overall with a 1-4 record in Big East play.

The Huskies will play their last home game of the season Wednesday, April 20 at 3 p.m. when they host Big East rival Georgetown at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
