Huskies Fall to East Carolina at AAC Championships

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The UConn men's tennis team was knocked out of the 2016 American Athletic Conference Championship on Thursday with a 4-1 loss to East Carolina in the opening round of the men's tournament. The Huskies end their season with a 6-19 overall mark.
The Huskies fell behind 1-0 after ECU took the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches to gain the early advatage. Kasey Countee and Will Bissett defeated UConn's freshmen tandem of Justin Warren (Durham, N.C.) and Hank Hill (Ponte Verde Beach, Fla.), 6-2. They clinched the point at No. 1 as Tendai Tapfuma and James Ling beat Jacob Spreyer (Denver, Colo.) and Christopher Toner (South Hamilton, Mass.).
UConn fell behind 3-0 after the Pirates picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles. Spreyer, playing in his final match for UConn, earned the only point for the Huskies thanks to a win at the No. 1 spot. Spreyer defeated Tapfuma 6-3 adn 7-5 to end his career on a winning note.
ECU clinched the match at the No. 3 spot in a tough fought three-set battle. Warren dropped the first set to Fredric Lehfeldt 6-4 but rallied to win 6-4 in the second. The deciding set went to a tie break where Lehfeldt came out on top, 7-6 (7-5).
