Rowing Welcomes 13 Freshmen to the Roster

The University of Connecticut rowing team will welcome 13 newcomers to its team for the 2016-17 season. Here’s a profile look at each one of them.
Nicole Chaloux
Hometown: Sandy Hook, Conn.
High School/Previous School: Newtown HS/Eastern Connecticut State
Intended Major: Individualized Health Sciences
Years Rowing: Two
Notable academic accomplishments: Received a "High Grade Point Average for Junior Year Students" in the sports and leisure management major at ECSU
Why chose UConn?: I chose to transfer to UConn because of my interest in the health sciences, exercise science and related fields. UConn offers flexibility within their majors, as well as the individualized major for me to really find what I am interested in and would like to do in a professional field. I am looking forward to exploring these related fields as I continue to find my way into the professional world! Another reason I picked UConn was because in addition to academics, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved on campus. I look forward to finding out about all of the opportunities to get involved with campus clubs and organizations as well as the women’s rowing team!
Jordan Crinieri
Hometown: Newburgh, NY
High School: Our Lady of Lourdes
Intended Major: Undecided
Years Coxing: 7
Notable rowing accomplishments: Earned four varsity letters. In 2014 , placed third in the women's lightweight eight+ at the New York Scholastic Championships, then advanced to the SRAA Nationals 2014 for the lightweight eight+. Rower of the year 2015. MVP 2013 and 2014. Placed first in the men's junior 18 8+ at the Philly Youth Regatta. Competed at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta and Head of the Charles.
Notable academic accomplishments: Honor roll throughout all four years of high school and Principals Club
Why choose UConn?: I choosed UConn because of the amazing academic opportunities that are provided and the close knit community feel on campus. I would also like to further my rowing career as a Division I athlete and I am excited to see what the next four years as Husky have in store for me.
Eleanor Dowd
Hometown: Glastonbury, Conn.
High School: Glastonbury
Intended Major: Nursing
Years Rowing: Four
Notable academic accomplishments: Member of the National Honors Society; received High Honors throughout high school. Seventh overall at the 2016 NEIRA regatta. Third place at the Connecticut State Public Schools Rowing Championship

Lauren Knapp
Hometown: Trumbull, Conn.
High School: Trumbull
Intended Major: Management and Engineering for Manufacturing
Years Rowing: Three years
Notable rowing/academic accomplishments: Captain of Great River Rowing Team. One of 28 women in the nation chosen to attend the USRowing National Sculling Team Selection Camp in the summer of 2015. Member of the National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society and Treasurer of the Tri-M Music Honor Society.
Why choose UConn?: Proud to be the eighth member of my family to attend UConn. Very excited to be a Husky and continue the family tradition.
Kaitlyn May
Hometown: Simsbury, Conn.
High School: Simsbury High
Intended Major: Nursing

Notable rowing/academic accomplishments: Varsity women's Rowing grades 9-12, varsity swimming grades 9-12, Honor Roll all four years of high school, school record holder in the 200 and 400 freestyle relay, CPSRA First place finish in the first women's varsity in 2014, NIERA petite final winner in the first women's boat in 2014.
Why choose UConn?: UConn is both academically rigorous and athletically challenging. I cannot wait to become a part of such an amazing team and program.
Delaney McGovern
Hometown: Gainesville, Fla.
High School/Previous School: Homeschooled/Dual Enrolled at Santa Fe College for junior and senior years

Notable rowing/academic accomplishments: Third in Florida State in Junior 8+, fifth in Southesat Region in Novice 4+, fifth overall as a novice in Varsity 500 meter erg sprint at Southern Sprints, third in Novice 2k erg sprints at Southern Sprints
Why choose UConn?: I've always wanted to go to a school where there is a big sports atmosphere! UConn has a really positive atmosphere and I love the way all of the rowers seem to know and support each other. I want to go somewhere where I know I can improve and become a better rower and athlete and I think UConn is the place to be for that.
Alexis Meehan
Hometown: Port Washington, N.Y.

Intended Major: Environmental Studies
Notable Accomplishments: Accepted into UConn's Honors Program, Honor roll student, recognized as a NYS Scholar Athlete, four varsity letters in indoor track, bronze medal coxing the Women's Ltwt four+ at the New York State Scholastic Championship.
Why choose UConn?: I chose UConn because of the academics, sense of community and opportunities both in and out of the classroom.
Caroline Richman
Hometown: Minnetonka, Minn.
High School: Minnetonka
Intended Major: Business Management
Years Rowing: One
Notable rowing/academic accomplishments: Rowed in four that tied for first at the Head of the Mississippi in the fall of 2015. Placed first in the Women's Junior Novice event at the Minnesota Power Pull. Academically, in the IB Diploma Program, placed top ten at DECA internationals for event. Will graduate with Suma Cum Laude.
Why choose UConn?: The biggest reason was that I loved the campus and the team, but I also chose UConn because of the opportunities that I could find on campus both in terms of academics and athletics.
