PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Riding a three-game winning streak, the UConn men's soccer team resume non-conference play when it travels to Providence to challenge the Friars on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcasted on WHUS.org, 91.7 FM.
UConn (6-3-0) opened up American Athletic Conference play with a 1-0 victory over Temple in front of 4,159 fans on Saturday night at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. Sophomore forward Abdou Mbacke Thiam (Dakar, Senegal) found the back of the net for the fourth time in his last three games, while redshirt-junior keeper Scott Levene (Stamford, Conn.) shined in net, notching his third shutout of the 2016 campaign.
The Huskies own a 32-6-2 all-time record against Providence in a series that dates back to 1973. The two teams last met in the 2012 campaign when Connecticut picked up a 2-0 win on Oct. 27, clinching their 12th-ever Big East regular season championship.
Through nine matches, UConn ranks 26th nationally with a 0.77 goals against average. Individually, senior tri-captain Kwame Awuah (Toronto, Ont.) stands at No. 8 in the country with 0.67 assist per match.
The Friars enter Wednesday's match-up with a 4-4-0 overall mark, including a 3-2-0 record at home. The program is coming off a 2-0 setback to Butler on Saturday.
