Huskies Set to Open 2016 Season at UMass on Saturday

AMHERST, Mass. - The UConn women's cross country team kicks off its fourth season of competition in the American Athletic Conference when it opens the 2016 season at the Minuteman Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 10. Action at the UMass XC Course is set to begin at 11 a.m.

Connecticut began its 2015 season at the event a season ago, taking home a first-place team finish. UConn finished the meet with 25 points, topping Boston College (54) and Vermont (64) for the top spot. Connecticut averaged an 18:07.20 second time as a team in the 5K race, which was over 14 seconds better than the nearest competitor.
Less than a week later, Connecticut heads to historic Franklin Park in Boston to compete at the 2016 Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown, scheduled for Sept. 16 at 9 a.m. The Huskies will look to improve on a 12th-place finish from 2015.
Next up, the Huskies travel to Bethlehem, Pa. to participate in the 43rd annual Paul Short Run, set to commence on Oct. 1. In 2015, Connecticut grabbed a fourth-place finish at the meet, paced by a second-place 6K finish fromEmily Durgin. The team continues its fall schedule a week later at the New England Championships (Oct. 8) in Boston, before heading to Warwick, R.I. for the Rothenburg Run (Oct. 14) and its final tune-up prior to the conference meet.
Connecticut searches for a conference title on Saturday, Oct. 29 in Cincinnati at The American championship before beginning NCAA action on Nov. 11 at the NCAA Northeast qualifier in Boston.
