Women's Soccer Beats Houston In OT

STORRS, Conn. - Senior Sabrina Toole (Westport, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal 1:17 into overtime with an assist from junior Vivien Beil (Jena, Germany) to lead the UConn women's soccer team to a 3-2 win over Huston on Sunday afternoon.
UConn improves to 6-6-3 on the season and 4-2 in the American Athletic Conference while Houston falls to 5-8-1 and 1-5.
The game-winner came off a corner kick from Beil that Toole put in the net on a header from six yards out.
The contest went back and forth as Houston opened the scoring at the 14:20 mark when freshman forward Jazmin Grant scored off an assist from junior midfielder Lauren Flowers.
It didn't take the Huskies long to get the equalizer as sophomore midfielder Erin Spillane (River Vale, N.J.) scored an unassisted goal just 3:55 later.
UConn took a 2-1 halftime lead as junior Elena Santos (West Hartford, Conn.) put the ball in the net with an assist to Beil at 22:36.
Houston scored the only goal of the second half when Grant scored her second of the game at 69:26 off a rebound.
The Huskies outshot Houston by a 17-16 count and the Cougars has six corner kicks compared to four for UConn.
UConn returns to action next weekend when it travels to Florida to take on the top two teams in the American Athletic Conference. The Huskies play at first-place UCF on Thursday at 7 p.m. and then take on USF on Sunday at 1 p.m.
