Duo of Huskies Earn BIG EAST Weekly Awards

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Goalkeeper Nina Klein garnered her second BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week award as announce by the league office on Monday. Senior Charlotte Veitner joined Klein on the weekly awards list as the forward landed a spot on the conference honor roll.
In another record-setting weekend for a senior Husky, No. 1 UConn bumped its BIG EAST regular season win streak to 22 games with a strong defensive effort, while clinching a spot in the BIG EAST Championship. In goal, Klein posted three saves against Liberty, picking up her eighth cleansheet of 2017, in a 3-0 victory. In addition, the senior is now locked with Husky alum Sarah Mansfield for the top spot on UConn's career shutout list with 33. With the win, UConn improved to 14-0 overall and 5-0 in conference play, while the Huskies have outscored their opponents 69-9 so far this season.
In a 3-0 shutout victory at Liberty, Veitner tallied the game-winning goal, posting her conference-leading 20th goal of the season and 104th of her career. Nationally, the senior forward ranks second in both goals (20) and points (51), as the top-ranked Huskies remain the only unbeaten team in the nation.
UConn returns home next weekend against Georgetown on Saturday, Oct. 21 for BIG EAST action. The tilt is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.
