MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis scored a pair of goals in the first 12:15 of the game en route to a 3-2 victory over the UConn women's soccer team on Sunday. Memphis improves its record to 9-5-1 on the season and 3-2-1 in the American Athletic Conference while the Huskies are 4-6-3 and 2-2.
Sophomore forward Mikayla Morton opened the scoring at 8:26 with her eighth goal of the season on a give-and-go from sophomore midfielder Serena Nolan. The Tigers came right back at 12:15 when Dolan scored as Morton played a pass to the corner, junior forward Marie Lavasseur served it in and Dolan finished it.
The second half also started with a scoring flurry as Memphis took a 3-0 lead 2:41 into the half as junior forward Elizabeth Woerner scored on an assist from Morton.
UConn broke into the scoring column 21 seconds later as sophomore defensemen Regan Schiappa (Bedford, N.H.) scored her first career goal to inch closer with an assist going to junior Vivien Beil (Jena, Germany).
The Huskies closed the gap to 3-2 with 19:11 left to play as freshman Yamilee Eveillard (Valley Stream, N.Y.) scored on an unassisted goal.
Memphis outshot the Huskies by an 18-13 count and each team had five corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Courtney Hofer (Farmington, Conn.) had three saves in goal for the Huskies.
