UConn Stops St. Francis Brooklyn, 6-1

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn men's tennis team snapped a three-match losing streak on the final day of the regular season thanks to a 6-1 win over visiting St. Francis Brooklyn on the UConn Tennis Courts. The Huskies end the season 9-11 and will move on to next week's American Athletic Conference Championship tournament.
The Huskies opened the day by sweeping all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead into singles play. At No.1, seniors Parker Goldstein (Marietta, Ga.) and Christopher Toner (South Hamilton, Mass.) posted a 6-3 win over Alejandro Ridruego and Guillermo Artiz. At No.2, sophomore Hank Hill (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) and senior Arnaud Valentin (Ridgefield, Conn.) teamed to beat Zurab Tskhakaia and Stefan Gmijovic, 6-3.
The rookie team of Jacob Appleton (Farmington, Conn.) and Brady Flanagan (Overland Park, Kans.) made it a clean sweep at No.3, beating Pablo Blasco-Torres and Javier Navarro, 6-3.
In singles, the Huskies took five of the six matches, winning at No.2 through No.6. Sophomore Jack McLister (Leesburg, Va.) made it 2-0 on the weekend, beating Gmijovic at No.6, 6-4 and 6-4. Valentin beat Blasco-Torres at No.5, 6-4 and 7-5, his team-leading 15th win on the season.
Sophomore Justin Warren (Durham, N.C.) won at No.4, 6-1 and 6-4, over Tskhakaia, ending the regular season with 13 singles wins. Goldstein won at No.2 over Artiz, 7-6 (5) and 6-0 and Appleton closed it out winning at No.3 over Navarro, 6-1 and 6-4.
The Huskies will head to the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Fla. for the American Athletic Conference Championship starting on Thursday, April 20.
