Women's Soccer Loses To No. 15 Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The 15th nationally-ranked Rutgers women's soccer team defeated UConn, ranked No. 21, by a 2-0 score on Sunday. The loss moves UConn's record to 0-2-1 while Rutgers is 3-0.
After a scoreless first half, Colby Ciarrocca dribbled the ball 20 yards out and scored into the far corner at the 5:19 mark of the second period. Rutgers made it 2-0 with 8:43 to go in the game on a goal by Ali Amirah assisted by Nicole Whitley. Whitley had a take away from midfield and fed the ball to Ali at the top of the box, who scored from the center.
Rutgers outshot the Huskies 20-9 and had a 5-1 corner kick advantage. Junior defender Heidi Druehl (Stamford, Conn.), junior forward Kim Urbanek (Lonnerstadt, Germany) and freshman defender Yamilee Eveillard (Valley Stream, N.Y.), who came off the bench, all had two shots for the Huskies. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Mollie Kerrigan (Fairfield, Conn.) had six saves in net for UConn.
UConn returns to action next weekend when it travels to nearby New Britain, Conn., to play in the Central Connecticut Tournament. The Huskies take on St. John's on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and then play the host Blue Devils on Sunday at 6:00 p.m.
