STORRS, Conn.—The UConn (11-10, 3-5 AAC) women's volleyball team hosted Tulane (16-7, 4-4 AAC) Friday night with a final score of 3-0.
The Green Wave barely escaped the grasp of Huskies in the opening set. Tulane got out in front of UConn by several points late in the first set, but a service error by the Green Wave would help ignite a Husky rally. Freshman Anna Petrova and redshirt-sophomore Genna Florig paired up for a crucial block assist to bring UConn closer, 20-16.
A kill from senior Danielle Cabel inched the Huskies closer as the Petrova-Florig duo connected yet again on a much needed block, with the score now 21-18. Florig would get in on the action with a kill of her own shortly after and would team up with senior Iman McGary to block a prospective Tulane point, 23-20. On a Petrova serve, the Huskies nabbed a point on a Green Wave attack error, 23-21, forcing a Tulane timeout.
Continuing her block-party, Florig aided sophomore Isabelle Peterson in halting the Green Wave's push for 25. Tulane would go on to take the match in a three set victory.
Freshman Kennadie Jake-Turner hit an essential .500 while adding a dig and a block assist. McGary, Cabel, and Florig joined her as Huskies with five or more kills on the night. Senior Emma Turner and redshirt-freshman Courtney Morris ended the match with double-digit assists, 13 and 11 respectively.
Defensively, UConn concluded the evening with six team blocks with five different Huskies in the block assist column; Jake-Turner, Petrova, Florig, Peterson, McGary. Senior Elizabeth Kline led the team with eight digs with Turner (7) and McGary (6) close behind. The match saw one lead change and 10 total ties.
UConn will host the Memphis Tigers on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 1:00 p.m. in Gampel Pavilion. The match will be dedicated to Go 4 the Goal as well as Breast Cancer Awareness.
