Pieper, Sprecher Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors

STORRS, Conn. – UConn field hockey's Cecile Pieper and Cheyenne Sprecher earned BIG EAST honors after leading the Huskies to two wins over ranked opponents last weekend. Pieper was tabbed BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season while Sprecher was named Freshman of the Week for the fourth time.
Pieper recorded seven points (2G, 3A) in the two wins. In a 6-1 win over No. 19 Liberty, Pieper scored once while adding a career-high three assists. Against No. 24 Boston University, she scored once on just one shot. This season, Pieper leads UConn with 17 goals and 43 points.
Sprecher backlined UConn's defense to its two wins this weekend. Against No. 19 Liberty, which came into the game averaging 3.66 goals per game, she allowed just one. Sprecher made seven saves against the Flames. She made three saves against No. 24 BU, all in the last minute of play as the Terriers took three late penalty corners. Sprecher allowed no goals off penalty corners in either game. This season, she holds a 1.02 goals-against average and a .775 save percentage.
The No. 5 Huskies (14-3) conclude their regular-season schedule this weekend in the nation's capital. UConn will face Georgetown Friday at 2 p.m. before taking on American Sunday at 1 p.m.
