Tomas Vomacka Named Hockey East Rookie of the Week

STORRS, Conn. – UConn freshman Tomas Vomacka (Trutnov, Czech Republic) was named the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week on Monday after helping the Huskies to a 3-1 victory over RPI on Saturday night.

Vomacka made his first collegiate start in goal on Saturday night and made 23 saves to earn his first career victory. The rookie goaltender kept RPI off the scoreboard for the first two periods and made 11 of his 23 saves in the second period. It's the freshman's first career Hockey East weekly honor.

Vomacka and the rest of the Huskies return to Hockey East play this weekend hosting the Maine Black Bears. Friday night's home opener is set for a 7:05 puck drop and Saturdays series finale will get underway at 3:05 pm.
