Huskies go four sets with the Golden Hurricane

Iman McGary sets season high in service aces
TULSA, Okla.—UConn (11-13, 3-8 AAC) tightly contested every set against Tulsa (16-7, 8-3) in the 1:00 p.m. four set match on Sunday, falling 3-1.
The Huskies bounced back in Set Two and dropping a very close opening set 18-25. The second set began with senior Emma Turner serving and resulted in an attack error on Tulsa giving UConn the introductory point. Just when it looked like the set was slipping away from the Huskies, they regrouped and battled their way back. With the score at 13-20 in favor of Tulsa, freshman Caylee Parker's kill would not only bring her team closer to the Golden Hurricane, it would spark the crucial set-winning rally.
After subbing in various UConn players, Kris Grunwald's team went to work. Redshirt-freshman Courtney Morriswent back to serve and nabbed her team a point due to a Tulsa attack error. Senior Iman McGaryand Parker would both score consecutively on assists from Morris to force a Tulsa timeout and bring UConn within four at 16-20. Service aces from McGary and sophomore Ally Barrett, four kills from Parker, a kill from redshirt-senior Danielle Cabel, combined with several errors committed by the Golden Hurricane propelled the Huskies to a 26-24 victory to tie the match at 1-1.
The following two sets where back-and-forth with a point differential of only seven. As a team, UConn led in four different categories; points (58), kills (46), aces (9)—season high, and digs (65.)
Parker and fellow freshman Kennadie Jake-Turner were two Huskies with double-digit kills at 17 and 10 respectively. McGary added nine kills, a season high four aces, a block, and 13 digs. Turner totaled 20 assists, with Morris dishing out 16, and senior Elizabeth Kline joining in with several of her own. For her third consecutive match and the 22nd match of the season, Kline posted a double-digit dig effort with 17. McGary and Turner both concluded the afternoon with 13 digs.
UConn will return to Gampel Pavilion to host UCF and USF to begin the month of November. UCF will come to Storrs on Thursday, Nov. 1st at 7:00 p.m. while the USF match will be played on Saturday, Nov. 3 at noon.
