15 scheduled home games
STORRS, Conn.—The UConn softball team and Head Coach Jen McIntyre announced their 55–game schedule for the 2019 season on Wednesday morning, releasing a slate that includes trips to seven different states; Florida, South Carolina, California, Georgia, Kansas, Texas, and North Carolina. The Huskies will compete in several non-conference tournaments with 16 games played in Connecticut and 15 of those at home on Burrill Family Field.
When asked about her outlook on the upcoming schedule, coach McIntyre states, "We are absolutely looking forward to a challenging schedule and getting ready for conference play."
UConn will open the season in Miami, Fla. in a tournament hosted by Florida International University on February 8-10 with their first home game slated for March 27th against UMass-Lowell.
The Huskies make a pit stop in Hartford, Conn. to take on the Hartford Hawks on March 12th in a doubleheader with a start time of 1:00 p.m. Four teams from the 2018 Women's College World Series—Boston University, Cal State Fullerton, UCLA, Fordham University--excluding American Athletic Conference opponents—Wichita State, Houston, USF, and Tulsa—will be opponents for UConn.
"The American Athletic Conference proved in 2018 just how tough we all are top to bottom," said McIntyre. She continued, "We put four teams in the 2018 NCAA Tournament; Tulsa, Houston, USF, and Wichita State. We had the fourth highest RPI in the country, ahead of two Power 5 conferences. That says a lot for the student-athletes and programs in the AAC."
Conference play will begin on March 29th when the Huskies travel to Wichita, Kan. to compete with the Shockers of Wichita State over the course of several days. UConn opens up the month of April at home against UMass, Memphis, and Boston College before heading to Texas to take on Houston midmonth.
Returning to Burrill Family Field, the Huskies will host the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State University on Apr. 16 before entering a three-game battle with USF and a midweek doubleheader against Hofstra.
The final road games of the regular season will be played in Greenville, N.C. against the Pirates of ECU beginning on Apr. 26-30. To conclude the month, UConn will host Quinnipiac on the 30th in a single game at 3:00 p.m. The final series of the season will be a reverse of the 2018 season, as Tulsa makes the trek to Storrs. Last year the Golden Hurricane went 2-1 against the Huskies to conclude regular season/conference play.
"We are excited to test the team and see where we are especially with our depth and versatility. We will see what moving parts are going to work together," said McIntyre.
The American Athletic Conference Championship will be played in Houston, Texas at the University of Houston Softball Stadium, beginning on May 9th.
