UConn Earns NFHCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year Honors

GILBERT, Ariz. – After leading the Huskies to two conference championships and an appearance in the NCAA quarterfinals, UConn field hockey earned Spiideo/NFHCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year honors Thursday.
Led by Nancy Stevens in her 29th season, the UConn coaching staff also features associate head coach Paul Caddy and assistant coach Cheri Schulz, both in their 19th seasons. Stevens is the all-time winningest coach in Division I field hockey with 681, including 501 at UConn.
This season, the staff led the Huskies to a 19-4 record, including a 7-0 mark in BIG EAST play. The team won its sixth straight regular season conference title and its seventh straight BIG EAST Tournament title. UConn made its 26th appearance in the NCAA quarterfinals and the team's 17th straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
The UConn coaching staff was also selected as the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year. Stevens earned seven BIG EAST Coach of the Year honors before the award was switched the Coaching Staff of the Year. Stevens, Caddy and Schulz have earned BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year for five straight seasons.
Stevens has been earned NFHCA Mideast Region Coach/Coaching Staff of the Year 10 times: 1996, 1998, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2017 and 2018.
This season, the coaching staff led six All-BIG EAST honorees and seven NFHCA All-Region selections. Stevens and her staff featured the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and NFHCA Regional Player of the Year, Cecile Pieper, as well as BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Cheyenne Sprecher.
Earlier this week, Amanda Collins, Svea Boker and Pieper were tabbed NFHCA All-Americans.
