UConn Falls to Colgate, 5-2

BRADENTON, Fla. - The UConn men's tennis team got a pair of singles victories from senior Jonathan Edwards (Isle of Palm, S.C.) and freshman John Michael Holtmann (Coral Gables, Fla.) but came up shortin a 5-2 loss to Colgate at IMG Academy. The Huskies will wrap up their spring break trip to Florida on Wednesday taking on Quinnipiac.
"It was a tough battle lasting over three hours but we came up a little short," stated associate head coach Reinaldo Valor. "We played to win but came up short Colgate was the better team today."
UConn lost the doubles point but did get a win at No. 3 from the junior tandem of Hank Hill (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) and Jack McLister (Leesburg, Va.) who beat Alec Dardis and Peter Hartman. The duo improved to a team-best 15-9 on the season.
In singles, Holtmann won at No. 5 over Hartman in three sets, dropping the first 7-5 but rebounding for a 6-2 and 6-3 win, his second-straight win on the trip. It was his 10th victory on the season.
Edwards won his 12th match of the season, tying for the team-lead, beating Jack Ablon at No. 6, 6-4 and 6-3.
