BOCA RATON, Fla. --- UConn junior co-captain Jimmy Hervol (Hopkinton, Mass.) led wire-to-wire as he won the second tournament of his college career, shooting an impressive 15-under 64-67-70=201 to earn individual medalist honors at the FAU Spring Championship. The tournament concluded Sunday at the Osprey Point Golf Club in Boca Raton, Fla.
Hervol, who also won the 2016 Gimmler Invitational last year as a sophomore, shot two sub-70 rounds, upping his total in that category to a career 17, as well as 40 rounds of par or better as he topped the huge 114-player field by one stroke over Carlos Bustos of Lynn University (202). Hervol led the tournament with three eagles and topped the field in Par 4 scoring, playing those holes in 10-under. His 16 birdies tied for third-most.
Hervol's win led UConn to a second-place finish in the 19-team field, the Huskies' fourth Top Five finish of the season. UConn shot an aggregate 19-under 273-285-287=845, finishing behind only hometown Lynn University (826). Jacksonville State (850) finished third.
UConn redshirt sophomore Drake Hull (Rutland, Vt.) had the best finish of his college career, finishing in a tie for sixth with his finest college tournament performance, a 6-under 69-72-69=210. The three rounds of par or better upped that total to 11 for the season, and the two sub-70 rounds were his second and third this year. It was Hull's first Top 10 finish.
Junior Nick Harrington (Chaplin, Conn.) had his fourth career sub-70 round as he shot a 2-under 68-73-73=214 to finish in a tie for 21st place, while junior Nabeel Khan (Westerville, Ohio) finished in a tie for 65th with a 7-over 74-73-76=223 and freshman Rodrigo Sanchez (Santo Domingo, D.R.) finished in a tie for 73rd place with an 8-over 72-77-75=224.
Also, two Huskies played as individuals in the tournament. Sophomore Tim Umphrey (Northborough, Mass.) finished in a tie for 86th place with a 10-over 76-77-73=226 and freshman Jack Boulger (Walpole, Mass.) finished in a tie for 91st place with a 12-over 74-83-71=228.
UConn's spring schedule continues on April 1-2, when the Huskies compete in the Coca-Cola Lehigh Valley Collegiate, held at Silver Creek Country Club in Hellertown, Pa.
