Field Hockey Lands 18 On National Academic Squad

STORRS, Conn. -- One week after the 2017 Nation Championship field hockey team was recognized for outstanding academic output in the fall semester of 2017, 18 Huskies have been named to the Zag Field Hockey/ NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, as announced by the association on Thursday.
Tori Albright, Rachel Alexander, Aubrie Bleier, Svea Boker, Natalie Burns,
Emma Colesworthy, Amanda Collins, Amelia Iacobucci, Karlie Heistand, Nina Klein, Kita Konerth, Chiara Ma, Ashley Rich, Antonia Tiedtke, Vivienne Tucker, Casey Umstead, Barbara van den Hoogen, and Charlotte Veitner all gained recognition for earning cumulative GPAs of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year.
It is the fifth National Academic Squad selection for Klein in her UConn career. Heistand, Umstead and Veitner are three-time recipients.
76 schools were represented for the National Academic Squad, amounting to 960 student-athletes in total.
The Huskies went 23-0 (7-0 BIG EAST) under head coach Nancy Stevens in 2017 on their way to the program's third national title in three years. UConn captured its sixth-straight regular season and tournament title.
