Huskies Lose 4-2 at The Citadel

CHARLESTON, N.C. - The UConn baseball team started its spring break trip with a 4-2 defeat to The Citadel on Friday night at Joe Riley Park.
Tim Cate pitched seven innings for the Huskies but was ultimately handed his third defeat of the year after allowing nine hits, three runs and struck out nine.
The Huskies gave Cate some support in the opening frames with a run in the first and a run in the third. Senior right fielder Isaac Feldstein drove in both runs for the Huskies on an RBI fielder's choice in the first and an RBI single in the third. Feldstein leads the Huskies with eight total RBIs this season.
Zac Susi and John Toppa each collected a pair of hits on the evening. The UConn bats were unable to record a hit after the six inning.

In the seventh inning with the game tied at two, Cate committed his second error of the game on a failed pickoff throw to second. The go-ahead run moved up to third and was able to come around and score after the ball was misplayed by Troy Stefanski in centerfield to make it 3-2 Bulldogs.
UConn fall to 5-5 on the year and have a season-long three-game losing streak. The Huskies look to rebound tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
Notes
With his nine strikeouts on Friday, Tim Cate stands alone in fourth place all-time in UConn history with 235 career strikeouts.
The Huskies plated a run in the first inning on a Feldstein fielder's choice. It is only the second game that the Huskies have plated a run in the opening frame.
The Huskies fell to 4-1 when they score first in a ballgame.
