Huskies Win Doubles but Fall to ECU, 4-2

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's tennis team opened their match with American Athletic Conference rival ECU by winning the doubles point but the Pirates rebounded in singles play to come away with a 4-2 win on Friday at the UConn Tennis Courts. The Huskies fall to 10-9 with the loss.
The Huskies' No. 2 team of seniors Zaina Zaki (West Chester, Pa.) and Summer Walker (Conyers, Ga.) got a 6-4 win over Hsia Ho Chiao and Nastja Rettich, their seventh victory together this season.
UConn clinched the opening point at the No. 1 spot where senior Yelyzaveta Pletnyeva (Vinnitsa, Ukraine) and junior Jacquelyn Fitz-Randolph (Tampa, Fla.) remained unbeaten this spring playing together, improving to 9-0 thanks to a 6-4 win over Alisa Diercksen and Lisa Hofbauer.
After a win at No. 2 pulled ECU even in the match at 1-1, junior Jacqueline Lazaro (Largo, Fla.) gave the Huskies back the edge with a win at No. 4, beating Alisa Dierckson, 6-3 and 6-1. She improved to 23-9 on the season in singles play including a 10-5 mark at No. 4 during dual match season.
The Pirates pulled the match even with at No. 1 where Celia Ruiz topped Pletnyeva 6-4 and 6-3. ECU closed out the win by taking the No. 5 and No. 6 singles spots.
The Huskies will close out the regular season with another match-up with an AAC opponent as they host Cincinnati at the Magic Lincer Tennis Academy in Manchester. First serve is slated for noon.
