Huskies Host Vanderbilt on Senior Day

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's lacrosse team rounds out its 2018 home slate on Sunday afternoon at the Sherman Family Complex. The Huskies play host to Vanderbilt (8-7, 3-4) with first draw beginning at 12:00 p.m.
UConn will honor its six seniors prior to the game in a special pregame ceremony. Madison Hooper, Kelsey Catalano, Kristyn Gaines along with captains Grace Nolan, Cassie Ekstrom and Grace McDonald will play their final collegiate game in Storrs. The senior ceremony will be available for family, fans and friends to watch on HuskyVison with the live stream beginning at 11:40 a.m.
Limited Parking
The Native American Powwow will be held in Gampel Pavilion from 12-4 p.m. on Sunday. Parking behind Gampel Pavilion will be limited and fans are encouraged to park in the South Garage across from the field.
A Win Would...
A win would give Connecticut a .500 record overall at 8-8 and in league play at 4-4. If UConn is victorious on Sunday, the senior class will own a 39-28 clip during their careers. Lastly, a win would be better than a loss.
The Series
Sunday's contest marks the seventh match-up between the two teams in the sport of women's lacrosse. UConn trails 4-2 in the all-time series but owns a 1-1 clip against the Commodores in Storrs.
Last Time Out
Senior Grace Nolan became the BIG EAST all-time points leader (139) following an eight goal and two assist outing at No. 23 Georgetown on Wednesday afternoon. The Huskies saw their second half comeback fall shot when the Hoyas' Taylor Gebhardt scored a goal in the final minute to edge the Huskies 15-14. Nolan matched her own single game record of eight goals scored for the third time this season. The Marcellus, N.Y. native shares the record with senior Kelsey Catalano who tallied a career-high eight goals against Temple on April 7.
Leading the Pack
Grace Nolan is pacing the Huskies in points (91), goals (62) and assists (29) while leading the conference with 6.07 points per game and 4.13 goals per game. The Marcellus, N.Y. native is third in the league in helpers posting 1.93. Classmate Cassie Ekstrom, is boasting a team-high 42 ground balls and 32 caused turnovers. In addition, freshman Sydney Watson is headlining the team with 73 draws.
Leaving Her Tracks
During her time in Storrs, senior Grace Nolan has established herself as one of the most prolific scorers in program history as she continues to rewrite the record book. Nolan currently sits atop the leaderboard with 274 career points and 176 career goals. Her 98 career helpers ranks second all-time.
Earlier this season, Nolan broke a pair of program records notching 11 points against Cincinnati while scoring eight goals on two different occasions. Last season Nolan notched 77 points which ranks second in the UConn record book for points in a single season, while her 33 helpers marked the second highest in program history.
Quick on the Draw
Freshman Sydney Watson has been unstoppable in the circle this season. The freshman currently owns 64 draws to set a new single season program record. She has won a personal-best eight draw controls on three different occasions which is good for second overall on the single game records list.
Senior Kelsey Catalano set a new program record in draw controls when she won 11 against Fairfield on Feb. 14.
100 and Counting...
Head Coach Katie Woods reached a career milestone on Feb. 14 as she eclipsed the 100-win plateau with a 13-12 win against Fairfield. Woods, who has coached at UConn for eight years, set the program record for most wins by a head coach last season with 73. Woods captured 74 of her 100 wins as the leader of the Huskies and accumulated her first career 26 wins during her time at American (2007-2010).
Notables
Kelsey Catalano earned her first career BIG EAST Attacker of the Week honor on April 10 after tallying 12 goals and 13 points in two games for the Huskies. Grace Nolan was tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll (2/19) after totaling nine points off six goals and three assists in a 1-1 week for the Huskies. Freshman Sydney Watson garnered BIG EAST Freshman of the Week accolades after a five-point (4g, 1a) performance against No. 7 Syracuse on Feb. 9.
