PALM HARBOR, Fla. --- Junior co-captain Jimmy Hervol (Hopkinton, Mass.) set a UConn record for the lowest aggregate score at the American Athletic Conference Championship as his 1-under par 70 in Tuesday's final round capped a 2-over 73-72-70=215 tournament, good enough individually for a tie for eighth place.
The tie for eighth matched Hervol's own record for UConn's best finish by a player at the AAC Championship, which he set last year, with a 4-over 217. Hervol led the 50-player field with 14 birdies on the Copperhead Course at the Innisbrook Resort. It was the fifth Top 10 and eighth Top 20 finish of the season for Hervol and also included his 19th round of par or better.
Hervol's performance was part of UConn's overall 33-over 302-296-287=885 score for the three-round event, ninth in the 10-team field. USF successfully defended its team title from last year, winning the 2018 event with an impressive 10-under 842, led by individual medalist Claudio Correa's 6-under 207.
Also for the Huskies, junior Nick Harrington (Chaplin, Conn.) shot a 10-over 75-78-70=223 to tie for 32nd place and up his total of par-or-better rounds to 13 for the season. Junior Nabeel Khan (Westerville, Ohio) finished in a tie for 36th place with a 12-over 74-77-74=225, redshirt sophomore Drake Hull (Rutland, Vt.) tied for 39th with a 13-over 80-71-75=226, and sophomore Tim Humphrey (Northborough, Mass.) tied for 45th with a 16-over 80-76-73=229.
The AAC Championship wrapped up the 2017-18 schedule for the Huskies, who finished with six Top 5 finishes in 11 events, including a team championship in the 2017 Connecticut Cup.
