STORRS, Conn. - Following a 1-1 week, two members of the UConn Lacrosse team were honored with BIG EAST weekly awards, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
Senior Grace Nolan was named Co-Attacker of the Week while freshman Sydney Watson was tabbed Midfielder of the Week.
This marks Nolan's third Attacker of the Week nod this season. The Marcellus, N.Y. native took over the BIG EAST record book last week, becoming the league's all-time career leader in points and matching the record for career goals. The senior posted 15 points off 13 goals and two assists, including eight goals and two dishes in the record-breaking game at No. 23 Georgetown on Wednesday.
Nolan also broke BIG EAST single-season records for points and goals last week. In a do-or-die game against Vanderbilt on Sunday, Nolan's fifth goal in the game was the overtime game winner, keeping the Huskies' chances of a BIG EAST Championship berth alive. Nolan was 7-for-7 last week on free position attempts and added 13 draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. She tallied 11 draw controls in the back-and-forth battle with the Commodores.
This is Watson's first Midfielder of the Week award and second honor this season. Watson totaled nine points off five goals and four assists, along with 13 draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover. The rookie had a trio of assists at No. 23 Georgetown on Wednesday, including the helper on the game-tying goal with 2:02 to go. She posted a game-high nine draws against the Hoyas. In Sunday's crucial win over Vanderbilt, Watson scored five goals and added an assist, while winning four draws. The Huskies scored five of the final six goals against the Commodores to complete the comeback, with Watson scoring two during that span.
UConn can clinch the final BIG EAST tournament spot when it travels to Milwaukee to face Marquette in the regular season finale on Saturday. First draw is slated for 12:00 p.m. (ET) at Valley Field.
