Four Huskies named All-Academic
2018 USTFCCCAÂ Academic Awards
STORRS, Conn. - The UConn men's track and field and cross country team was named an  U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic squad with four student-athletes earning USTFCCCA All-Academic honors during the 2017-18 track & field seasons.
Â
As a team, the Huskies posted a 3.14 grade point average this past season to earn a spot among the 141 men's programs recognized nationwide.Â
Â
Recent graduates Trenten Beram (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), Craig Hunter (Robbinsville, N.J.) and Seth Zuidema (Midland Park, N.J.) and rising senior Patrick Begley (Suffield, Conn.) were honored with All-Academic honors for compiling a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or better.Â
Â
Hunter was the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Champion in the pole vault and for the third time in his accomplished career garnered All-American honors after placing 16th at the NCAA Championship. Beram was All-AAC in the 200 meters during the outdoor season and just missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the event with a 13th place clocking at the East Regional.Â
Â
Zuidema had a pair of wins this season in the javelin, taking the gold in the Huskies' home meet, the Northeast Challenge and at the Miami Hurricane Alumni Invitational. He finished 18th at the NCAA East Regional to wrap-up his career. Begley qualified for the NCAA East Regional in the 10,000 meters but was unfortunately forced to scratch after being diagnosed with a stress fracture that came in the middle of the race at the AAC Championships; a race he finished third in to garner all-conference accolades.
Â
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
Â
For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org. For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
