EVANSTON, Ill. – Three Huskies scored in the second half as the No. 1 UConn field hockey team (2-0) beat No. 15 Stanford (0-1), 3-0, at Lakeside Field.

Freshman Karo Kueskes, fifth year Cecile Pieper and freshman Abby Gooderham each scored for UConn. Kueskes notched her third goal of the season while Pieper and Gooderham notched their first goals as Huskies.

The Huskies held a 10-1 advantage in shots in the first half but the teams went into halftime tied 0-0.

Kueskes broke the tie at 47:45 with a shot to the left of the cage. Pieper added a goal at 49:50 off an assist from Amelia Iacobucci. Gooderham scored at 53:39 with a shot above the goalkeeper.

UConn held a 16-3 advantage in shots and a 5-1 advantage in penalty corners in the game.

The Huskies open their home schedule with a game against Michigan State next Friday, Aug. 31 at 5 p.m.
