UConn Beats Houston for First AAC Win

Huskies take down the Cougars in four sets
HOUSTON, Texas – The UConn volleyball team had three players with double digit kills on the way to beating the Houston Cougars in four sets Sunday afternoon for their first American Athletic Conference win on the season. The Huskies moved to 9-6 overall and 1-1 in the league while the Cougars fall to 0-2 in AAC play and 13-4 overall.
UConn opened Sunday's match in impressive fashion, hitting .429 with 15 kills and no errors en route to a 25-16 win. The Huskies went up 2-0 with a 25-18 second set win but could not close out the sweep as the Cougars seized the third set, 25-23. UConn put the match away in the fourth with a 25-18 win.
R-Sophomore Genna Florig (Portland, Ore.) led the way with a career-high 14 kills while hitting an impressive .619 (14-1-21) in the match. Florig also chipped in with five total block from her middle blocker position.
Freshmen Caylee Parker (Windsor, Ontario) and Anna Petrov (Voronezh, Russia) both had double-digit kills in the win. Parker led the team with a 16 kill afternoon while adding seven digs and two total blocks. Petrov came up with 10 kills, five digs and two total blocks.
Senior Elizabeth Kline (Glenshaw, Pa.) had 17 digs in the win while senior setter Emma Turner (Winter Park, Fla.) passed out 42 assists and had five digs and a pair of aces.
The Huskies will return to action on Friday, September 28 when they head to Temple for an AAC match-up.
