HARTFORD, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team collected its first American Athletic Conference victory of the season with a 2-1 overtime victory against the Houston Cougars at Dillon Stadium.
Junior Yamilee Eveillard provided a pair of goals for UConn including the game-winner at 93:36 in the first overtime.
The game completely shifted in the second half with the Huskies down 1-0. UConn turned up the intensity by forcing four-straight corner kicks to begin the half.
Sophomore Jackie Harnett found Eveillard on a perfectly executed header to even the score at 1-1 in the 50th minute.
The Huskies continued to dial up the pressure in the second half with an 11-5 shot advantage. Senior Vivien Beil nearly gave UConn the lead in the 89th minute with a rocket off the crossbar from just inside the box.
UConn converted on the game-winner with Melina Couzis finding Kess Elmore in the center of the field. With plenty of space, Elmore dished out wide to Eveillard and the Valley Stream, N.Y. native streaked into the box, cut towards the end line and chipped her shot towards goal. The Houston defender tried to head it away but put it right into the back of the net.
The Huskies (5-7-1, 1-4 American) look to carry momentum into their final weekend home match of the season. UConn hosts SMU on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m.Â
